What is the ACCESS/ELP Test?           ¿Qué es el examen ACCESS/ELP?

The ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency test designed to measure your student's progress in learning English.

Understanding the Scores                     Entendiendo los resultados

Your child receives scores in four language domains:

  • Listening: How well your child understands spoken English
  • Speaking: How well your child speaks English
  • Reading: How well your child reads English
  • Writing: How well your child writes in English

Su hijo/a recibe puntajes en cuatro áreas del lenguaje:

  • Comprensión auditiva: Qué tan bien su hijo/a entiende el inglés hablado
  • Expresión oral: Qué tan bien su hijo/a habla inglés
  • Comprensión lectora: Qué tan bien su hijo/a lee en inglés
  • Expresión escrita: Qué tan bien su hijo/a escribe en inglés

Level 1: Entering - Beginning to understand English
Level 2: Emerging - Starting to use English
Level 3: Developing - Using English with support

Nivel 2: Emergiendo - Empieza a usar inglés
Nivel 3: Desarrollando - Usa inglés con apoyo
Level 4: Expanding - Using English independently
Level 5: Bridging - Using English proficiently
Level 6: Reaching - Full English proficiency

Overall Composite Score                      Puntuación compuesta general

This is the overall English proficiency score that combines all four domains. It shows your child's overall progress in learning English.

Esta es la puntuación general de competencia en inglés que combina las cuatro áreas. Muestra el progreso general de su hijo/a en el aprendizaje del inglés.

How to Support Your Student                Cómo apoyar a su estudiante

  • Talk with your child's teacher about their progress
  • Encourage reading in both English and your home language
  • Ask your child about their school day in your home language
  • Provide opportunities for your child to practice English in real-life situations
  • Hable con el maestro de su hijo sobre su progreso
  • Fomente la lectura tanto en inglés como en su idioma natal
  • Pregunte a su hijo sobre su día escolar en su idioma natal
  • Proporcione oportunidades para que su hijo practique inglés en situaciones de la vida real
